Al Salaam Deli
About This Spot
Stepping into Al Salaam Deli is like finding a quiet, authentic corner of the Mediterranean tucked away in the heart of Savannah. This unassuming spot, often described as a cozy “hole in the wall,” hums gently with the warmth of its owners and the rich aromas wafting from the kitchen. The space inside is intimate—small enough that you can’t help but feel like you’re sharing a genuine moment with both the staff and fellow guests, creating a feeling that’s more like visiting a friend’s home than a typical restaurant.
There’s a comforting pace here, unhurried and sincere. You won’t find flashy decor or bustling crowds, but rather a space filled with the subtle textures of tradition—the fragrant mix of spices, the smoky hints of grilled lamb, and the fresh zest of herbs and lemon. Whether you’re waiting for a falafel sandwich or savoring the savory layers of a lamb gyro wrap, the experience invites quiet appreciation: the crisp exterior of falafel giving way to a tender heart, the smooth, creamy richness of hummus and baba ganoush that feels handcrafted and honest.
More than just a meal, Al Salaam Deli offers a taste of place and memory. The owner’s easy conversations and stories about the neighborhood add a layer of belonging to the visit, turning each order and bite into a shared moment of history and hospitality. It’s a locale where time seems to slow just enough for you to notice how simple ingredients can connect strangers and create a sense of comfort.
While the seating may be modest, the heart of this deli—and the experience it delivers—is anything but. The care in each dish, the genuine warmth from the staff, and the quiet buzz of an enduring neighborhood spot make Al Salaam Deli a quietly treasured discovery for those looking to explore Mediterranean flavors in a setting that feels authentically familiar.

Very kind people that work there It’s a hole in the wall- and not a lot of space inside but the food is so yummy. You come away feeling something.

The best Mediterranean food I have ever eaten in Savannah. A tiny hole in the wall will seat maybe 10 people and friendly owners. Always courteous and really the best food at a reasonable price . I usually get take out and orders can be called in.

I would argue this is the best middle eastern joint in the country. Absolutely crammed interior with an incredible atmosphere and an unforgettable decor. We had a selection of the dishes and the halal meats were delicious and fragrant. They serve a fantastic and authentic baba ghanoush and fantastic Palestinian style humus.

I recently stopped by Al Salam Deli, and it was such a pleasant surprise! I ordered the falafel and fries, and they were absolutely delicious. The falafel was flavorful and well-seasoned, perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside. The fries were hot, fresh, and paired perfectly with the meal that included a beverage; simple but so satisfying. The atmosphere at Al Salam Deli adds to the experience. The space is small, cozy, and welcoming, making it feel like a neighborhood spot where you can relax and enjoy good food. They also offer a small selection of ingredients and pantry items that you can take home to cook with, which gives the deli a unique, homey touch. If you're looking for a tasty bite in a warm and inviting setting, Al Salam Deli is definitely worth a visit. I’ll definitely be coming back!

The gyro I ordered was incredibly good. The lamb was amazing and unforgettable, and every bite was a true taste explosion. This is a true old school deli. You walk in, place your order, and it carries the vibe of times past in the best way. While I was waiting, I had a warm and genuine conversation with the owner, Meqbel Salameh. He shared a little about the history of the deli and neighborhood, and it added so much heart to the visit. I will absolutely be making up reasons to come to Savannah just for this sandwich. It is that good.

We were welcomed nicely by the owner. Ordered our food and it was made quickly. Excellent spicy chicken curry, babaghanoush and hummus. 10/10 most flavorful food I’ve had on our 3 day trip to Georgia.

The food here was delicious! Had the spicy lamb Gyro and it was super tender and juicy with just the right amount of char on it. The spices used to create the heat were exceptional. You need to make this place apart of your Savannah experience whether you are visiting or live there.

We ordered two lamb gyro combos. They were absolutely delicious. The service the owner gave was friendly and fast. The food was so good we were already thinking of when we come back next time. Definitely recommend. We need many more great restaurants like this where we live.
